Mauricio Picasso was born in Uruguay but he grew up in Sweden, were he works on popular education. A music lover, which enabled him to travel around countries such as Germany, Spain, Cuba, Chile and Uruguay, besides Scandinavia, Mauricio is part of the committee that is organizing the cultural activities around ICAE’s

VIII World Assembly that will be held from 14 to 17 June in Malmö, Sweden.

In a recent visit to ICAE’s offices in Montevideo, Mauricio shared some details on the preparations that are being carried out:

“I am at the local part of the organization, in the South of Sweden, and we are five people there organizing the activities that will be developed around the Assembly. More people and activities are being added all the time. On 1st March we will be having another meeting and we are convening all persons in charge of the cultural area in those organizations linked to the Sweden Council of Popular Education. That way we can start to decide what will be done, for example, during the week previous to the Assembly that, in my opinion, would be the right moment to make a general campaign on the streets, in Malmö city, to disseminate the event.”

“During the days of the Assembly there will be activities at the beginning of each conference, starting the day, and the first evening there will be a welcome party. The following day, on Wednesday, it will take place the “Midsummer Night”, an enormous Sweden event and, in my opinion, a really nice one that shows in a certain way the essence of Sweden. In fact, this party is the following week, but we will have our “midsummer” party one week before (he laughs), which will surprise the whole city.”

“It will be a great party. We want it to be very bright and colourful. But we also want to give the good impression I received when I was here (in Montevideo) at the IALLA course, where the energy that exists between ICAE’s members reaches all people working for adult education all over the world, to whom we will have the honour of receiving in Malmö”.
